This full-day event will feature prominent women speakers and virtual networking opportunities. The focus of this summit is to empower women to live healthier, wealthier, and wiser lives by providing a platform where women can network, interact, learn and support small businesses. Our line-up of speakers include best-selling authors, multi-millionaires, financial experts, and so many other great women eager to share their experiences, advice, and wisdom. We’ll be closing out with a performance from the Grammy award-winning R&B group, 112. As we prepare for this epic event, I got the chance to pick the brain of one of our featured speakers, Francheska “Fancy” Felder.
Dove: In your own words, what is imposter syndrome to you? Fancy: Impostor syndrome is experiencing a win and still feeling like my imperfections overpowered the situation more than that win, and knowing my worth but still continually questioning it.
Dove: What is one thing that you’ve done to overcome imposter syndrome? Fancy: I accepted a win for what it was and celebrated myself; then I pushed my thoughts and self-criticism to the back of my mind and pursued another goal. After I accomplished that, I was like, ‘hey, there’s something to taking risks.’
Francheska “Fancy” Felder is a quiet Southern, media mogul in the making. In 2010, she launched SwagHer Magazine, an empowerment and lifestyle publication for the progressive Black community. Fancy’s passion for all things creative combined with her love for writing, Black culture, and business guided her to also offer her public relations, creative, and branding services, making the magazine more of a media boutique having its own subscription clients as well as advertisers, hence why the name changed to SwagHer Magazine & Media. The former teen mom graduated from Southwest Mississippi Community College with her associate’s in marketing management and is three hours shy of completing her bachelor’s degree in mass communications with a focus in public relations from Southern University A&M College. Somewhat of an introvert, Fancy is known for her charming but genuine character. After many personal disappointments and failures, she understands that we are only given one life, and it is what you make of it. In 2018, she spent 80% of the year homeless, bouncing between Louisiana and Mississippi, sacrificing almost a year of her life to pursue the life she felt she deserved, while also working to manage her high-functioning anxiety and depression.
When asked what women’s empowerment meant to her, Fancy stated “To me, women’s empowerment is to take or reclaim our power and reshape our lives on our terms, stepping out of the norm and the lanes of others, and finding and accepting our own lanes.”
