Manic depression and other mental disorders have a lot of stigmas attached to them. For fear of mockery or criticism, many persons with bipolar disorder or other mental diseases are unwilling to tell others about their condition. Before I dive into my tips, I have one piece of advice…STOP DOING THIS. I used to struggle with Bipolar Manic Depression but now I’m good with it, and you should be as well.
According to recent research by the World Federation for Mental Health, more than 71% of bipolar disorder sufferers felt they couldn’t tell others about their disease without being criticized.
Because of the stigma, many people will not tell their friends or family about their mental illness.
Many people with bipolar disorder are subjected to stigma and discomfort from well-intentioned friends and family members who are unfamiliar with the disorder.
Many patients are delighted to tell others about their “good” times, but they tend to keep their despair to themselves. This is definitely something that I struggled with for a while. They say that misery loves company, yet I was the opposite and chose to seclude myself.
